Sales tax revenue surged in Houston and Cabool in July, while Texas County experienced a decline in its collections.

HOUSTON

A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $82,139.25 for the month of July. That’s up $11,079.37 from the same period a year ago.

A one-cent general sales tax totaled $82,869.15. That’s an increase of $11,095.62 from the same period last year.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $20,535 in the month of July. That’s up $2,769 from the same period last year.

A use tax applied to out-of-state internet orders totaled $17,013.64 for the month. That’s down $10,792.44 from the same period last year.

CABOOL

A one-cent general sales tax totaled $37,775.57. That’s an increase of $5,541.59 from the same period last year.

A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $18,887.71 in the month of July. That’s up $2,770.73 from the same period last year.

A use tax applied to out-of-state internet orders totaled $12,736.24 for the month. That’s down $3,812.31 from the same period last year.

A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $18,489.97 for the month.

TEXAS COUNTY

For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $118,611 for July, which represented an increase of $9,467 on each from the same period a year ago.

The sales tax on out-of-state sales totaled $120,516.91 for the month. That was down $74,759.83 from the same month in 2023.

Revenue from a three-eighths sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $82,589.86, which was up $2,566.65 for the month.
