Here is a list of important General Election dates. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

•Military portal opened, Sept. 20.
•Absentee voting starts Sept. 24.
•Last day to register to vote, Oct. 9
•Last day to request mail-in ballot, Oct. 23.
•Saturday no excuse absentee balloting, Nov. 2.
•Last day of no excuse absentee balloting, Nov. 4.
•Election Day, Nov. 5. (Sample ballots will appear in the Houston Herald in the last two issues before Election Day).
The Herald also will publish candidate profiles in contested races.
