The Houston City Council hired a city clerk during a closed session meeting Thursday, Sept. 12. 

Barbara Rodgers was unanimously approved by board members at a salary of $55,166.80 plus current benefits. 

Rodgers grew up in Licking and is a 1991 graduate of Licking High School. She obtained an associate’s degree in business administration from Missouri State University. She has worked at the City of Licking for over 14 years and currently serves as the deputy clerk. 

She lives in Licking with her husband Jimmy and two children – Sean and Megan. 

Rodgers – who will begin duties Monday, Sept. 30 – replaces Heather Sponsler, who held the post since 2017. 

“I am excited to use my education, skills and experience to be a strong team member for the City of Houston,” said Rodgers.

During a special meeting Wednesday, Sept. 11, members approved a $4,800 reimbursement to the Houston Senior Center for costs related to sidewalk, entrance and parking lot improvements for Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) compliance.
