An accident Wednesday evening south of Houston closed U.S. 63 for a time and injured three people, authorities said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred near Hog Creek Road. At one time, both lanes were closed, but emergency personnel were able to get one lane open quickly. Debris was reported on the roadway. The Houston Rural Fire Department assisted.

Tpr. Nathan Poynter said the accident occurred when an eastbound 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by a 16-year-old male turned north on U.S. 63 from a private drive into the path of a 2020 Ford Expedition driving southbound by Meagan N. Hurst, 24, of Nevada, Mo.

Hurst and passenger, Justin S. Hurst, 25, Nevada, Mo., were taken by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The juvenile also had minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to TCMH.

Both vehicles were totaled, and everyone was wearing a seatbelt. Assisting were Cpl. Travis Brown and Tpr. Jason Sentman.
