Doyle E. Goodrum, age 93 of Hollister, Missouri, passed away Sept. 25, 2024. He was born Nov. 6, 1930 in Selmer, Tennessee, the son of James Nathaniel and Wilma Leverne Netherly Goodrum.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sarah Katherine “Katy”; son, Doyle Glynn Goodrum; sisters, Bonnie Fay Reed and Maxine King; and brothers, Donald Annis Goodrum and Melvin Luther Goodrum.
Doyle is survived by his daughter, Sheila Marie Hurley; brother, James Orvil Goodrum; grandchildren, Larry Hurley II, Jimmie Doylene Walser and Thomas McDaniel; great-grandchildren, Abby Walser, Molly Walser, Gryphon Walser, Paige Hurley, Dean Hurley, Ethan McDaniel and Chloe McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews.
Doyle was fortunate enough to have a full and active life. He worked alongside family, farming in his younger years, until enlisting in the Army. He served his country honorably as a corporal and was a distinguished veteran of the Korean War.
He then went on to work for Brown Shoe Company, settling in Houston, Missouri, where he retired and spent many years before moving to Hollister, Missouri in 2016 to be closer to family.
Doyle was a very generous and humble man and always made sure his family was taken care of. He will be greatly missed.
Per Doyle’s wishes, a private graveside service will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory of Doyle. Online condolences may be left at www.evansfh.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Evans Funeral Home.
