One person was shot Saturday by a Phelps County deputy after several incidents occurred in southwest Phelps County, authorities said.

At 2:20 p.m., Central Communications received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at a residence in southwestern Phelps County. The caller reported several structures and vehicles had been intentionally set on fire by a known subject who also assaulted multiple persons, including a juvenile.

Deputies and firefighters responded to the area. Officers began searching for the suspect. At about 3:56 p.m., a deputy located the suspect on a nearby Forest Service Road. The suspect exhibited a firearm and was shot by the deputy, authorities said.

Other deputies and personnel from the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived and began lifesaving measures. The male suspect was airlifted from a landing zone at Edgar Springs to a hospital for treatment, where he is a patient.

Authorities said more details would be released as the investigation continues.
