The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On Aug. 30, a 52-year-old woman reported an incident at a U.S. 63 residence she had inherited.

The woman told a deputy that a man and woman who had been renting an adjacent residence were moving out and she had seen them leaving with a truckload of property. The woman said she then noticed a heat lamp facing the front door of the rental home that was attached to an extension cord. She said she followed the cord and discovered it was plugged into an outlet in the kitchen of her inherited house.

Investigation continues.

  • On Feb. 7, a deputy on patrol on Highway H observed a Chevrolet pickup pull off to the side of the roadway.

The officer ran the truck’s registration and found that the owner was a man with an active warrant (of unreported nature). The deputy made contact with the man driving, and confirmed the active warrant, and the man was taken into custody.

During a review of inventory inside the vehicle, methamphetamine was located concealed in a pack of cigarettes.

On July 31, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Laboratory confirmed the substance found was meth. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.

  • Stacey W. Wells, 69, of 123 Brian St. in Licking, was issued a citation Sept. 20 for failure to maintain right half of the roadway – immediate threat of an accident.

A deputy wrote the ticket after observing a tractor-trailer rig hauling a load of logs on Highway 32 west of Licking traveling several feet within the oncoming lane.

The officer evaded the truck by maneuvering his patrol vehicle off the road surface.

A traffic stop was then conducted.
