Fatal crash

A Steelville man was killed in a fatal accident Thursday afternoon after a crash in Phelps County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Gabriel K. Peak, 22, was driving a 2008 Honda southbound on U.S. 63 near County Road 6220 when he crossed the centerline and struck a 2020 Peterbilt driven by Rajan N. Taylor, 42, of Potosi, patrol said.

Peak was pronounced dead at the scene by Phelps County Coroner Ernie Coverdell at 2:17 p.m., according to the patrol report. The accident was just north of the Phelps and Texas counties line.

This is the 28th fatality for Troop I in 2024 and its second in October. Next of kin has been notified.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Investigating the accident was Tpr. J. N. Rigsby. Assisting were Cpl. J. E. Bellers, Cpl. B. N. Crawford, Tpr. C. C. Marlow, Tpr. E. D. LeBlanc, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office and the Edgar Springs Fire Department.
