Looking to repeat its 2023 district championship success, the Houston High School volleyball team defeated Forsyth in an opening round match Tuesday.

Houston ended Forsyth’s season in five sets – 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11.

“I’m super proud of the girls,” said HHS head coach Julia Sloan. “Super proud we finished. Forsyth’s record may not be very good but their competition they play all year long is good. They are a good ball club.”

The Lady Tigers (21-11-3; 2-5 SCA) will face top-seeded Mountain Grove (25-3-1; 7-0 SCA) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

“Last time against [Mountain] Grove, Morgan McKinney didn’t play,” said Sloan. “This time we will be able to run our 6-2 offense. Being able to have both Kayla and Morgan in the offense will help us.”

In the other opening round match, Willow Springs defeated Ava in straight sets. They will face No. 2 Hollister at 6 p.m. Thursday.
