An inmate at the South Central Correctional Center at Licking died there Wednesday evening, the Missouri Department of Corrections said.

James Shoemaker, 55, was serving a 20-year sentence for first-degree statutory sodomy from Greene County and a life plus 999 years sentence for two counts of forcible sodomy from Lawrence County.

Shoemaker was received in the Missouri Department of Corrections in July 2020.

An autopsy will be conducted, the department said.
