After reading the letter from David Drury (to the editor on Oct. 10), I felt compelled to respond with this letter to the editor.
Josh Hawley and Donald Trump seem to be the masters of taking a topic and turning it into something completely different in an effort to polarize people. Facts are insignificant – divide and conquer seems to be the motive.
Mr. Drury’s purpose appears to me to be along those lines. Fortunately, the readers of the Houston Herald were given the exact text of Amendment 3 in the same Oct. 10 edition, as provided by the secretary of state, John Ashcroft.
It was easy to pull Mr. Drury’s letter and compare it to the amendment. I hope that everyone that read the letter to the editor did this.
People have strong beliefs about Amendment 3, but misinformation and hysteria shouldn’t be a factor in their decision on this amendment.
