A Success man was injured Monday morning in an accident about 3.5 miles south of Houston on U.S. 63, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Tpr. Chad Johnson said the crash occurred when a northbound 1996 Nissan pickup driven by James E. Umfress, 56, of Success, attempted to pass a 2016 Ford F-450 operated by Larry G. Hamilton, 76, of Solo. The Hamilton vehicle struck the pickup, Johnson said.

Umfress, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston with minor injuries.

Johnson said the Nissan was totaled; the other vehicle had minor damage. Hamilton was wearing a seat belt.

Members of the Houston Rural Fire Department and its rescue squad were called to the scene.
