About $3.1 million was spent on public education in Texas County from Missouri Lottery proceeds in fiscal year 2024, according to a new report by the agency.
At Houston, $791,445 was received. The funds are earmarked for day-to-day operations, reimbursing the costs for students who have individualized education programs that exceed three times the current expenditure per average daily attendance, payments based on average daily attendance, matching funds to help teachers advance in their career and funds allocated through the state’s funding mechanism, the foundation formula.
Here are the breakdowns for Texas County schools: Cabool ($617,497), Houston ($791,445), Licking ($688,072), Plato ($397,023), Raymondville ($192,906), Success ($88,111) and Summersville ($308,470).

Another $7,163 went to assist clients who have disabilities to obtain employment by diagnosis, physical restoration, training and placements.
“We’re very proud that 100% of Lottery proceeds are sent to public education in Missouri,” said Lester Elder, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “We encourage everyone to go out to these maps (https://www.molottery.com/where_the_money_goes/missouri_counties) to see just how Missouri Lottery benefits schools in your own community.”
Since the first Missouri Lottery ticket was sold in 1986, it has provided more than $8.3 billion to the state and public education. Disbursement of those funds is determined through the annual legislative budget process, at which time lawmakers define which programs will receive lottery proceeds, as well as the amount allocated to each program.
In last fiscal year the Missouri Lottery provided $389.7 million to public education. Lottery proceeds typically represent about 4% of the total funding required to run Missouri’s public elementary, secondary and higher education systems. Funding education is an effort shared by local, state and federal governments.
