I feel the end of the year fast approaching now that daylight savings time is here and Thanksgiving is just around the corner.

Fall and being thankful are themes at the library for November. Come check out our display of the following new titles: “Picture Perfect Autumn” by Shelley Noble, “The Pumpkin Spice Café” by Laurie Gilmore, “ Death in a Turkey Town” by Melanie Jackson, “The Thank-You Project: Cultivating Happiness One” by Nancy Davis Kho, and “Gratitude: A Way of Life” by Louise Hay.

“A Suit for Melvin” is a quick short read that I recently finished.  I highly recommend this sweet and fun story to all book lovers. Set in Missouri, this is a modern day Tom Sawyer type of read for all adults.

Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library Branch’s Friends Group. Friends of the Libraries strengthen libraries’ presence in communities and help them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.

We offer books for sale in the main entrance year-round. Come find out how you can fill a Texas County Library bag for $10 or purchase books individually for $1 each. Cash or check only and all proceeds benefit the Texas County Library. Save the date for the week of Dec. 2, as the Summersville branch will have books and treats for sale. Details to come.

Texas County Library is part of a group of Missouri libraries that make it possible to get books for our patrons if we don’t have it in the Texas County four-branch system. Please be mindful when you check out any library materials to handle with care.  Things like food, drink and smoke will damage books.  The other libraries in Missouri that we borrow books from for our patrons will charge us for damages. Help us not have to charge you for any damages. Thank you for always respecting library property!

Dreams can become reality, and I know this to be true every time I drive past the new Houston main branch library site. Walls are going up and it is getting very exciting. There is still some way to go, but the contractor and library board are working hard to give Texas County a beautiful new main branch!  If you would like to contribute to the new library, there are still NAP credits available for purchase. Contact me at 417-967-2258 for information.

Come have a story and craft each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Houston library with Miss Tiffany. There are also LEGOS, STEM Kits and kids’ computers available for fun any day we are open. Information about all the library branches can be found on our website and Facebook page.
