Plans have been announced for Houston’s annual “Taste of Christmas” event, which is Saturday, Dec. 14.

Local businesses sponsor a category to host and residents enter food items. Residents visit each location and vote for their favorite in each category. Winners are determined by top votes. There is no cost.

Those wishing to enter the contest must bring their food item to the appropriate location before 10 a.m. Participants have from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sample the treats and vote. 

Participating businesses are Back to Basics, appetizers; Houston Herald, brownies; New Concepts Hair Salon, candy; In Season Sports & Outdoors, cobblers; Vikings Post #109, cookies; D&L Florist, cookie bar; The Corner, cinnamon rolls; Phoenix Theater, cheeseballs/mini popcorn balls; Houston Senior Center, chili; Lilia’s Taqueria, chips and salsa; Millstone Market, cupcakes; The Crafting Table, decorated cookies; Forbes Pharmacy, dips; City Limits Flea Market, fudge; Texas County Library, gingerbread houses; Bomgaars, jerky; Holy Cross Lutheran Church, pies; Mean Muggin’ Coffee Bar, soup; Treasure Hunt Resale, snack mix; and The Health Food Store, sugar free. 

Cassie Carter, event organizer, said a Christmas parade and community tree lighting are also planned that day.
