A Waynesville man is charged with felony second-degree assault and felony armed criminal action following a reported fight Sunday evening in downtown Houston, police said.
Jonathan Renfro, of the 25000 block of Redwing Drive in Waynesville and born in 1997, is charged by the county prosecutor’s office. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.
At about 5:25 p.m., police said they responded to a report of a fight in progress downtown. A group of individuals were found in an alleyway. The motive for the altercation was apparently a relationship with a woman, according to police.
Following an investigation, police determined Renfro was armed with a hammer and struck a tan and black Taurus Millennium G2 9mm handgun from a victim’s hand. The latter said he was acting out of self-defense. The two had apparently tangled before the call downtown.
The victim was found with injuries to his face, police said. He refused medical treatment. The gun was observed and appeared to have damage consistent with being hit with a hammer.
