Robert D. “Pete” Bishop passed away Sept. 7, 2024. 

He was a loving husband of 69 years to Barb Bishop (nee Hodges). Loving father of Mike (Laura) Bishop, Kevin (Lisa) Bishop. Cherished grandfather to his grandsons, whom he was their biggest fans, Mikey, Drew, Cody, Jack and Ryan Bishop. He also was a step grandfather to four children; Erin, Jeane, Lauren and Joey. Born on March 17, 1935 in Simmons, Missouri, he was the dear son of Frank and Anna (Hogan) Bishop and youngest brother of nine children; Wilburn, Thelma, Edna, Hazel, Gladine, Norma, Jackie and Lewis.

Pete was a cherished father, grandfather and friend. His greatest pride was his family, especially his beloved grandsons. Pete was a lifelong sports enthusiast, he found immense joy in watching all five grandkids grow and thrive on the court and field, always beaming with pride at each new accomplishment and milestone. Their bond was a testament to the special, irreplaceable relationship between a grandparent and grandson. He himself was a student athlete who participated in football, basketball, boxing, track and baseball at Houston High School, where he received an athletic scholarship to Coffeyville Junior College.

Pete was a barber whose skillful hands and warm heart touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his career. For over 65 years, Pete was the friendly face and owner behind the barber’s chair at Varsity Barber Shop, a place in Kirkwood, Missouri where clients were not just patrons but friends. Pete was known for his engaging conversations, and his genuine care for each person who walked through his door.
