Authorities reported that a woman fled from a residence with two children on Friday in the Cabool area while a county deputy made an unrelated arrest.
Caylee Briggs, 33, of the 14000 block of Airport Road at Cabool, is charged with kidnapping, a Class A felony, and resisting arrest. Her bond is set at $7,500 cash.
The Texas County Sheriff’s Department was at the home executing a warrant when Briggs entered the house to retrieve clothing for the children after their father arrived.
A deputy saw the children and Briggs running approximately 200 yards from the house into the woods after someone reported that they were gone. This initiated a search, and three hours later, they were located after hiding in brush near a road. Deputies said the suspect refused to release one child initially.
According to a report, Briggs did not cooperate and told an officer, “you’ll have to break my arm” to apprehend her. She was ultimately placed in handcuffs and taken to the Texas County Jail in Houston.
Briggs is not related to the minors and alleged that the father was whipping the children with a belt, according to a charging document.
