There are several events planned today (Dec. 14) in Houston related to Christmas. Here is a rundown.
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
A local organization is sponsoring a breakfast with Santa in downtown Houston.
The Pregnancy Resource Center of South Central Missouri will hold the event from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Lone Star Annex at 114 W. Main St. in Houston.
Persons can join for a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and drink (cost by donation only) and story time with Santa every 30 minutes. Pictures will be available.
Proceeds benefit the center.
CHRISTMAS MARKETS
The Not Too Shabby Christmas market is taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Piney River Ford in Houston, with several planned activities.
Megan Ashworth, who last year staged a Christmas event in Houston, is organizing the event.
The event will feature several vendors, pictures with Santa, live music, photo opportunities, giveaways and more. There will also be crafts and bounce houses for children, weather permitting.
Vendors will include food providers, coffee trailers and a variety of handmade goods, boutique items and baked goods among other items.
The event has a $3 entry fee.
The Dry Creek Marketplace Old Thyme Christmas Market is taking place from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Urbyn Roots Event Center.
The event will feature traditional crafts, vintage holiday decorations and homemade treats.
Those participating can go through market stalls, enjoy live performances and participate in festive activities for all ages.
TASTE OF CHRISTMAS
Plans have been announced for Houston’s annual “Taste of Christmas” event.
Local businesses sponsor a category to host, and residents enter food items. Residents visit each location and vote for their favorite in each category. Winners are determined by top votes. There is no cost.
Those wishing to enter the contest must bring their food item to the appropriate location before 10 a.m. Participants have from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sample the treats and vote.
Participating businesses are Back to Basics, appetizers; Houston Herald, brownies; New Concepts Hair Salon, candy; In Season Sports & Outdoors, cobblers; Vikings Post #109, cookies; D&L Florist, cookie bar; The Corner, cinnamon rolls; Phoenix Theater, cheeseballs/mini popcorn balls; Houston Senior Center, chili; Lilia’s Taqueria, chips and salsa; Millstone Market, cupcakes; The Crafting Table, decorated cookies; Forbes Pharmacy, dips; City Limits Flea Market, fudge; Texas County Library, gingerbread houses; Bomgaars, jerky; Holy Cross Lutheran Church, pies; Mean Muggin’ Coffee Bar, soup; Treasure Hunt Resale, snack mix; and The Health Food Store, sugar free.

CHRISTMAS PARADE, TREE LIGHTING
This year’s Houston Christmas parade is at 6 p.m. The theme of the parade organized by the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce is “Magical Christmas Lights.” (watch at https://houstonherald.com/grand-cam-live/)

The annual Houston Christmas Tree Lighting is 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the downtown business district.
The tree is at Downtown Houston’s Lone Star Plaza at Grand Avenue and Pine Street. It will be lit after the Houston Christmas Parade by a special guest, organizers said.
SUNDAY
The Houston Ministerial Alliance will sponsor a community Christmas service at 6 p.m. Sunday at Faith Fellowship on Highway 17.
