The Houston Community Foundation finalized plans Thursday night for its annual boys basketball tournament that begins Jan. 20 in Tiger Fieldhouse on the Houston School District campus and features teams from eight schools.

The event raises public awareness about the foundation’s work and acts as a fundraiser for its community grant and scholarship programs.

The tournament also acts to support the Texas County Food Pantry. Those attending are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to aid the East Highway 17 pantry in Houston.

There will be two chances to engage in some fun:

  • A half-court shot with the winner receiving cash. A raffle determines the shooters. The cost is $1 or a can of food or six tickets for $5.
  • A chance to win two passes for the annual Tom Barr Basketball Camp at West Plains. Children in first through twelfth grades can attend. Each winner also receives a basketball from In-Season Sports & Outdoors. Barr, a Hall of Famer in both the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association and Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Athletics, will host the summer camps. The raffle tickets are $1 or six for $5.
