The Houston School District has been awarded a $21,242 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Waste Management Scrap Tire Surface Materials Grant.
One project will create an outdoor learning area at Houston Elementary School on Bryan Street. It includes a 20- x 25-foot rubber surface that will create a comfortable environment for outdoor learning.
The second project includes a pour-in-place rubber surface on the floor of an inside playground at the Houston Alternative Learning Opportunities (HALO) building on First Street.
Both are expected to start in the spring.
