This area’s congressman was reappointed Monday as the chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which handles taxation policy in the country.
Jason Smith, R-Salem, was reappointed by the Republican Steering Committee.
In a statement Smith said, “For the past two years, the Ways and Means Committee has been traveling across the country, holding hearings and roundtables to listen to American workers, families, farmers and small businesses about the challenges they have faced under the worst inflation crisis in a generation and what needs to be done to turn the page. Since April and the establishment of the Ways and Means Tax Teams, we have held over 120 events in 20 different states to generate solutions that will help form the foundation for an economic growth package in the new year. Republicans are ready to hit the ground running, and I’m humbled and appreciative of the trust my colleagues have placed in me to help lead that effort at the Ways and Means Committee.”
Smith was first elected to the U.S. House in 2013.
