After voting by members of the Southwest Cross Country Coaches Association, two runners in the Houston High School cross country program – both girls – have earned All-Region recognition.

Senior Kristen Ely was named to the Class 3 All-Region First Team and freshman Jessyn Allen received Honorable Mention.

The pair led the Lady Tigers to a fourth-place finish in the Class 3 District 2 championships meet and a berth in the Class 3 state championships. Ely placed 13th and Allen came in 14th among 88 runners in the district meet.

The trip to state was the first for a Houston team since the cross country program was resurrected in 2019 after being absent since the early 1980s.

Toward the end of a highly successful high school career, Ely (who also qualified for state as an individual in her freshman and junior seasons) won her first-ever race in October on her home course at Houston Municipal Golf Course.
