The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On Dec. 14, a deputy responded to Texas County Memorial Hospital regarding an animal bite.
The officer made contact with a 40-year-old man there who said his two dogs were fighting at his Daisy Drive residence at Plato and one bit him when he went to break them up. The man advised that the dog that bit him was a Pit-Frenchie mix and that it was up to date on all its shots.
- On Dec. 5, Intercounty Electric reported that a meter had been tampered with at an Able Road residence in Houston. Intercounty reported that multiple seals on the meter were broken, the plastic cover had fallen off, and low readings were being recorded from it.
The account holder was identified as a 68-year-old woman. Intercounty officials advised they didn’t wish to pursue charges, but wanted the incident documented in case of a similar situation.
- A deputy was dispatched Dec. 29 regarding a report of a window being shot out at a Morton Road trailer home in Houston.
An 82-year-old woman who lives there told the officer she was sitting in her living room and heard a “pop.” She said she thought she had dropped her TV remote, but it was still on the arm of her chair.
She told the deputy she then turned on the porch light and saw that the top glass in her screen door was shattered. The officer observed small holes in the metal siding near the door and in the wood on the porch that appeared to be from a pellet gun.
The woman told the officer she had seen kids walking up and down the road and entering an abandoned house nearby. Investigation is ongoing.
- Paul Johnson, 24, of Independence, Missouri, was arrested Dec. 26 for having an active Texas County warrant for felony charges of assault – first degree and burglary – first degree, and a misdemeanor harassment charge.
A deputy made the arrest at a Wright Lane residence in Cabool and took Johnson to jail. Cash-only bond in the case is set at $5,000.
