The Houston R-1 School District Board of Education extended Dr. Justin Copley’s contract during a closed session meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14. 

The motion to extend Copley’s contract through the 2026-2027 school year passed 6-1, with Marty Merckling voting no. 

The board approved the employment of Bobby Downey and Jacob Boldon, as district custodian supervisors. Both are currently custodians at the district. Each vote passed 6-1, with Merckling voting no. 

Michael Hudson’s employment as a trip and substitute bus driver for the 2024-2025 school year, pending a background check and successful completion of bus training and licensure, was approved unanimously. 

During the meeting, Dr. Copley discussed administrator evaluations with the board.
