A Cabool resident escaped injury in an accident Sunday afternoon that hurt an Ava man, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Tpr. Jason Sentman said a westbound 2021 Nissan Rogue was attempting to overtake a westbound Toyota Tacoma operated by a 40-year-old woman from Cabool on the shoulder. The Rogue struck the Tacoma, causing the latter to travel off the right side of U.S. 60 about one mile west of Mansfield at about 2:20 p.m.

The Rogue came to rest after hitting a tree.

The Ava man was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The Rogue was totaled; the Tacoma had minor damage.

Assisting at the scene were Cpl. Jacob Sillars and Tpr. Robert Crewse.
