April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and at CASA of South Central Missouri, we believe that protecting children is a responsibility we all share.

Child abuse is a community problem, and it will take the collective efforts of our entire community to create meaningful change. Throughout the month, we invite you to stand with us, raise awareness and support the most vulnerable members of our community.

We are kicking off the month with a special Proclamation Event at 2 p.m. on April 3 at the Texas County Courthouse – second floor in Houston. Join us as local leaders officially proclaim April as Child Abuse Awareness Month. We encourage everyone to wear blue to show your support and stand together in the fight against child abuse.

We’re also excited to share that Tracy Freitas is back as an advocate supervisor for Texas County! Tracy’s passion and dedication to supporting CASA volunteers and advocating for children make her an invaluable part of our team. If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by the Justice Center and say hi!

Pinwheels, the national symbol for child abuse prevention, will be available for pickup starting April 1 at Mean Muggin Coffee Bar, Justin Shelby – State Farm Insurance agent’s office and our CASA office located in the Justice Center. We encourage you to display your pinwheel at your business or residence to spread awareness and start conversations about protecting children.

But that’s not all! There are plenty of ways to participate this month:

  • Pinwheel Challenge: Take a selfie with your pinwheel and share it on social media using #CASASCMO. Be sure to use our premade awareness post, going live on April 1, to amplify your message.
  • Coffee with CASA: At 9 a.m. on April 18, join us at Mean Muggin Coffee Bar for our informal monthly coffee. Learn more about what we do, meet our team and discover ways to get involved.
  • Volunteer Training: Are you passionate about advocating for children? Our next volunteer training class starts on May 20. Complete your online application at www.casascmo.org and be part of the change.
  • Wear Blue Day: On April 22, wear blue to raise awareness for child abuse prevention and show your commitment to protecting children. This day also marks our 15th Annual Justice is Served Breakfast, a celebration of the power of advocacy. To sponsor this impactful event or purchase tickets, contact Jenn Thomas at 573-426-5437.

Every child deserves a safe and loving home. By standing together as a community, we can ensure their voices are heard and their stories are not forgotten. Join us this April to raise awareness, spark conversations and inspire change.

Thank you for being a part of our mission. Together, we can protect children and build a stronger, more compassionate community.
