Playing in the Stoutland Spring Classic, the Houston High School baseball team lost two close games on Monday.

Game 1: Belle 2, Houston 0

Despite a solid pitching performance from ace Shaun Buck, the Tigers couldn’t manage to get the bats going against Belle.

Two runs – on a third inning groundout and fourth inning fielding error – were enough to give the opposing Tigers a victory.

Houston batters only managed 4 hits and 2 walks in the contest, striking out 12 times.

Pitching:

  • Shaun Buck (Sr.) – 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 8 K

Offense:

  • Jackson Morgan (Fr., RF) – 2-for-2

Game 2: Stoutland 6, Houston 5

Leading 5-3 entering the seventh inning, Houston (1-5) couldn’t manage to hold off Stoutland’s offense, losing 6-5 in 10 innings.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Houston responded in the fourth inning, tying the score at 2 on a pair of singles. In the top of the sixth inning, Stoutland regained the lead on a passed ball. However, in the bottom of the inning, Houston put up 3 runs on an error, single and double, to lead 5-3 entering the seventh inning.

Stoutland managed to tie the game in the seventh, sending the contest to extra innings. Neither team would manage to score until Stoutland broke through with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning.

In the bottom of the 10th, junior Aaden Scantlin gave the Tigers hope with a leadoff single. Scantlin advanced to third base on a passed ball. But, with a runner at third and nobody out, Stoutland got a strikeout, fielder’s choice groundout to get the runner at home and an infield popout.
