About 7,000 arrived Saturday at the state’s trout parks, including Montauk State Park east of Licking, on the first day of trout season.

More than 5,900 adults and nearly 1,100 youth trout tags were purchased, Missouri State Parks announced.

The Montauk opener came after months of work to repair the park after historic flooding occurred in early November and caused significant damage.

On Saturday, there were 2,167 adult and 310 children tags sold at Montauk as of 4 p.m. That was up slightly from 2024.

The catch-and-keep season lasts until Oct. 31.
