The Houston School District has created an indoor playground at its First Street Houston Alternative Learning Opportunities (HALO) building.

Funding from a Missouri Scrap Tire Grant through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources helped create safe and durable indoor playground flooring.

The funds were matched by the Houston Education Foundation, which assists with improvements on campus.

The result was an eco-friendly, impact-absorbing surface.

“Thank you to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and HEF for helping us create a space that fosters growth, movement and well-being for our students,” the district said in a statement.
