The Houston High School baseball team got its second South Central Association conference victory in as many games at Willow Springs on Monday.
“We’ve played much better the last couple of games,” said HHS head coach Brent Hall.
The game was a pitcher’s duel, with both teams combining for 5 hits and 1 walk.
In the third inning, freshman second baseman Jackson Morgan came through for the Tigers, getting on base with a bunt single, stealing second and third base and scoring on an error.
Senior Shaun Buck toed the rubber for 7 innings, recording 15 strikeouts while only giving up four hits and a walk to Willow Springs batters.
“The pitching has been dominant,” said Hall. “We’ve cut down on our errors and strikeouts looking. We’ve competed hard which is what I am most proud of.”
Houston (4-6; 2-0 SCA) plays at Salem on Thursday and will play in the Plato Spring Classic on Saturday. The team’s first home game is against SCA opponent Mountain Grove on April 14.

Houston 9, Liberty (Mountain View) 3
The Diamond Tigers had no issue hitting the baseball in their 9-3 victory against Liberty (Mountain View) last Tuesday (April 1).
Senior catcher Caiden Root recorded 2 RBIs on 2 hits for the Tigers, with senior third baseman John Jordan contributing 2 hits as well. The team combined for 8 hits and 4 walks.
On the bump, seniors Buck and Root took care of business, allowing only 3 runs in 7 innings and combining for 10 strikeouts.
