A Cabool man is charged with a pair of felonies after being involved in a physical altercation with a Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputy following a traffic stop on April 2.

Brett A. Hamilton, 35, of 628 Finley Road in Cabool, faces felony charges of resisting arrest for a felony and third-degree assault – special victim, along with a misdemeanor charge of failure to display lighted lamps on a motor vehicle.

According to a deputy’s report, while the officer was traveling on Finley Road at Cabool, a vehicle with an inoperable headlight was observed and a traffic stop was conducted. After contact was made with the driver, Hamilton, a computer check revealed he had an active warrant and the deputy told him to step out of the car.

Hamilton didn’t comply, but the officer opened the car door, and he got out. Hamilton reportedly became combative, and a physical conflict took place.

The deputy gained control of the situation and deployed his Taser at Hamilton, who then became compliant.

The officer reported receiving lacerations to his right arm, right hand and right side of his forehead.

Hamilton was taken to jail. Bond is set at $1,000 cash.
