Mason’s Lodge (Texas Lodge #177) of Houston will honor former State Sen. Michael J. Lybyer during an event on Saturday, April 5 in Houston. 

Lybyer is being honored for his 50th anniversary as a Mason. The event will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at The Lodge (812 Dooley St.). 

Born in Waynesville, Missouri, Lybyer graduated from Houston Schools in 1965. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He worked as a beef cattle farmer in Texas County and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He served in the Missouri Senate and the Missouri House of Representatives from 1978 to 1998. 

In 2000, Missouri State University-West Plains dedicated the Michael J. Lybyer Enhanced Technology center in his name. He became a Master Mason on March 31, 1975. He is a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine (Shriner’s) in Springfield.
