After losing five consecutive games last week, the Houston High School softball team got back on the winning track in a home game on Tuesday at Carter Field, defeating a combined team from Dixon and Newburg, 15-5.

The visiting combo squad got on the board first with 2 runs in the top of the first inning on 1 hit, 3 walks and an error.

But the Lady Tigers scored at least 1 run in all 6 innings of the run rule-shortened contest, tallying the final run on a ground out by senior Katy Scheets that drove in senior Sophia Crites from third base. Houston scored 5 times in the second frame and added 3 runs in the fifth and sixth.

Senior third baseman Makinley Aaron continued her torrid pace at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 3 singles, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Junior Ashley Gilbert also had 3 hits, going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs, while junior Lilly Kincaid went 2-for-3 with a walk and 3 runs and junior Katy Evans went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Houston senior Makinley Aaron puts the tag on Dixon freshman Addyson Vineyard for an out at third base.

Kincaid went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for Houston, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 3.

The Lady Tigers (9-7, 1-2 SCA) host Cabool on Monday (April 21) in a South Central Association conference matchup.
