April is Financial Literacy Month — a time to reaffirm our commitment to equipping Missourians with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed financial decisions.

As your state treasurer, I remain dedicated to promoting financial education and empowerment across our great state.

Financial literacy goes beyond balancing a checkbook — it’s about laying the groundwork for lifelong financial stability and growth. Whether it’s setting aside money for emergencies, saving for college, buying a home or planning for retirement, sound financial knowledge shapes nearly every important decision we make. It empowers individuals and families to face life’s financial challenges with confidence and clarity.

That’s why my office offers resources like the Financial Literacy Portal — a one-stop online hub with budgeting tools and personal finance lessons. We also provide guidance on impactful programs like MOST 529 and MO ABLE, which help countless Missourians plan and save for the future.

This year, I’m proud to support legislation that would establish the Missouri Financial Literacy Commission. This forward-thinking initiative will bring together educators, community leaders and financial professionals to coordinate financial literacy efforts statewide. By making programs more accessible and impactful, we can help more Missourians thrive financially.

Recently, I had the privilege of visiting Hannibal High School, where I spoke with students about credit scores, saving strategies and the importance of building good financial habits early. Their insightful questions and enthusiasm for learning reaffirmed the importance of starting financial education at a young age. It’s never too early to prepare for a successful future.

As we recognize Financial Literacy Month, I encourage all Missourians to explore the financial tools and educational opportunities available through my office, whether you’re just starting your career, raising a family or enjoying retirement. Financial literacy is not a luxury — it’s a necessity for personal success and the prosperity of our entire state.

Together, let’s build a financially empowered Missouri.
