The Houston R-1 School District Board of Education handled several personnel matters during a closed session meeting Tuesday, April 8. 

The following resignations were approved unanimously:

  • Jennifer Shelton, as middle school assistant volleyball coach, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Emily Cloud, as elementary/early childhood special education teacher, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Tory Wade, as high school assistant softball coach, effective immediately. 
  • Tina Sutton, as elementary/pre-school teacher, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Stephanie Skaggs, as paraprofessional, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Kathy Bradshaw, as middle school communication arts teacher, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Sharon England, as early childhood special education teacher at the Exceptional Child Cooperative (ECC), at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Stuart Smith, as high school student council and junior class sponsor, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Jacob Threewit, as middle school physical education/health teacher and middle school assistant boys basketball coach, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Crystal Ford, as community betterment sponsor, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 
  • Calley Rogers, as elementary music teacher, at the end of the 2024-’25 school year. 

The following hirings were approved unanimously: 

  • Veronica Douglas, as elementary art club sponsor, for the 2025-’26 school year. 
  • Gina Freeman, as pre-school/elementary teacher, for the 2025-’26 school year. 
  • Leah Biddinger, as elementary teacher, for the 2025-’26 school year. 
  • Wytney Steelman, as curriculum, instruction and assessment/grant coordinator, for the 2025-’26 school year. 
  • Aaron Tomczyk, as middle school/high school instrumental music director, for the 2025-’26 school year. 

The board approved extending letters of intent to non-certified employees on a list presented to the board for the 2025-’26 school year. Jeff Gettys and Jennifer Scheets abstained from the vote. 

The board approved extending contracts to extra duty coaches/sponsors on a list presented to the board for the 2025-’26 school year. Dustin Hartman, Charlie Malam and Gettys abstained from the vote.
