The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On May 4, a deputy was dispatched to a Nodaway Lane residence at Plato regarding a report of a man attempting to use his truck to hit another man who was on a lawnmower.
The officer made contact with a 61-year-old man, 51-year-old man and 60-year-old woman there, and the younger man explained that he had been on the mower and come around a corner on a public road that goes to the house of the suspect – a 64-year-old man – and that the suspect had tried to run him over and spun his tires. The victim left the mower where the incident had occurred, and the deputy observed tracks that indicated the truck had swerved close to the mower and left deep ruts where the tires had been spun.
Stories about the incident told by the other two people were similar.
Contact was made with the suspect, and he claimed the man on the mower had blocked his truck, so he went around it at a high rate of speed.
A report was sent to the county prosecutor for review.
- On May 17, a deputy responded to a report of shots fired at a Cedar Tree Avenue residence at Summersville.
A 58-year-old man there told the officer a 71-year-old neighbor lady had been shooting a pellet gun across his yard at his cats. The man showed the officer holes in the siding of the home caused by pellet gun fire.
The officer unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with the woman. Investigation is ongoing.
- On May 8, a 69-year-old man reported that a 22-foot Crest pontoon boat and 115-horsepower Evinrude outboard motor with a total value of $10,000 had been stolen from a location on Highway 32 at Roby.
During a phone conversation, the man told an investigating deputy he had moved to Oklahoma, and when he came to retrieve the boat, it was gone. Investigation is ongoing.
