It’s already June and that means Summer Reading 2025 at all Texas County Library branches!
Registration has started and runs through June 7. Parents can stop into their local branch to register children ages 3 – 15 for the June/July program: COLOR OUR WORLD which covers all things art! A calendar of events is included in the registration bag and can also be found on our website. Story Walks will not take place this summer.
Books, crafts and presenters are scheduled, concluding with an award party and gift card for those who finish the program. This is undoubtedly the favorite library activity of the year. Don’t miss the deadline to sign up! We are currently accepting donations to help with costs for this program. Thank you to those that have donated so far and for helping us keep the kids reading over the summer!
For the adult readers this summer, I have plenty of new titles coming in so please come in and check them out. If you have a special request for a book or series, just let us know.
June also means that I get to attend the Missouri Public Library Directors summer meeting. I love going to this conference to hear from the state on library issues as well as network with other directors. We share stories and tips of the trade with each other. I have found it to be a very useful tool for support and learning. This year it is in Branson and library directors from all over the state attend.
The next adult book club meets at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at the Houston branch. The following meeting is Saturday, July 12. All are welcome and come prepared to discuss a recent book you have read.
Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friends of the Librariy strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more. The next meetings are as follows: 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 2 at Houston; 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at Licking; 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Cabool; and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at Summersville.
Story times for children are at all Texas County branches. Times and days are listed on our website or call your local branch for details.
