An arrest was made Friday night after a motorist allegedly pointed a .45-caliber silver weapon at a driver on a busy highway in Houston.

David R. Cook, of Bunker, who was born in 1957, is charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault following the incident on South Sam Houston Boulevard.

According to a Houston Police Department investigation, Cook is alleged to have pointed the firearm at the victim at a stoplight near McDonald’s of Houston. The victim said Cook had done it several times on the highway.

The report led to a dragnet for the northbound vehicle, which was later stopped by Licking police. The victim had kept tabs on the suspect’s location.

A Texas County deputy later took custody of the suspect, and transported him to the Texas County Jail in Houston. While there, Cook admitted to the incident, and said the motive for the incident was the suspect had passed him too fast near Souls Harbor Family Worship on South U.S. 63.

Authorities took custody of the gun, a magazine that contained eight rounds and another magazine that contained six rounds with one round chambered.

He was released after a 24-hour hold. The prosecutor is seeking a warrant for his arrest.
