The Houston R-1 School District board of education hired a new elementary music teacher and declared school-owned property for sale during the closed session of Tuesday’s monthly meeting.

Personnel decisions

Hannah Bradley was extended a contact to lead the elementary music program for the upcoming school year. Makayla Spencer was also hired as speech-language pathologist assistant for the Exceptional Child Cooperative. Both are pending background checks.

Resignations were accepted from Clay Ashworth, middle school assistant baseball coach, and Mackenzie Long, paraprofessional, at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

Property sale

The board unanimously decided to declare the Building Trades property on Honeysuckle Lane, in Meadowbrook Estates, as surplus property and move forward with the bid process. Members approved having the property appraised at last month’s meeting. The minimum purchase price for the 3.61-acre property was set at $100,000.

Board president Jennifer Scheets was absent from the meeting that lasted 40 minutes.
