The doors will open in October at the new Houston branch of the Texas County Library in the downtown business district.
The decision came late last week by the Texas County Library Foundation, which is overseeing the project that will double the amount of floor space and includes several additional new features. The $2.9 million project covers about 7,200 square feet at First and Pine streets in Houston.
Various vendors are wrapping up projects for the library, which will include an expanded children’s section, the Evelyn Dieckhaus Creative Center. Furniture is expected to arrive in August. Final exterior work is underway. Landscaping was discussed at the meeting, and a plan adopted.
The group also announced it also has some remaining 2025 state tax credits available that allow qualified donors to the library project to receive generous benefits. For each $1 contributed, the donor earns 70 cents in state tax credit, and the donation may also qualify for a federal tax write-off.
For more information about the tax credits call Brad Gentry at 417-838-7840, Janet Fraley at 417-260-5707 or Library Director Louise Beasley at 417-967-2258.
