A Cabool man who was formerly a Howell County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been indicted by a grand jury on stealing charges.
Officers arrested Brian N. Jackson, born in 1986, at his Cabool house on Monday, Aug. 25. He posted $5,000 surety bond.
This case began in April 2024 under the leadership of former Sheriff Brent Campbell. An employee reported suspected fraudulent use of overtime grants and extra duty. The Missouri State Highway Patrol began its investigation in May 2024 after an investigator uncovered what appeared to be criminal activity. The details are contained in a 12-page report.
Investigators say Jackson allegedly engaged in deliberate, long-term theft. Investigators believe that records and traffic stops were falsified, and government databases were manipulated to facilitate this scheme.
“While these crimes occurred before I took office, I want to be clear, I will not tolerate this type of behavior from any employee of the Howell County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Matt Roberts. “The public has every right to expect our law enforcement officers to act with honor and integrity. If any deputy under my command chooses to betray that trust, they will be held fully accountable. I apologize to the citizens of Howell County for the actions of this former employee, and I remain committed to restoring and maintaining your trust in this office.”
