Members of the Texas County Commission handled several matters during meetings July 30 and 31.

Members:

  • Reviewed and approved a liquor license for Perry Cheatham dba Smokers Friendly #832.
  • Marty Merckling, Piney Township, requested approval from the commission to spend over the township threshold for a bridge on Emery Road.
  • Attended a township advisory meeting on July 28. The commission met after the meeting and voted to put a half-cent sales tax for road and bridge on the Nov. 4 election.
  • Reviewed and approved a liquor license for Joseph Polizzi dba Town & Country Supermarket #2421 in Licking.
  • Reviewed and approved accounts payable for Traveler’s Insurance totaling $226,287.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the hiring of Nola Smith as a full-time employee in the assessor’s office effective Aug. 6.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the verbal resignation of William Kirn as a full-time jailer effective July 23.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the hirings of Donald Buchanan and Cory Stinson as full-timer jailers effective July 28 and Aug. 8, respectively.
  • Reviewed a letter from SCOCOG concerning organizational dues.

In other business, commissioners heard from:

  • The county attorney on several area matters.
  • A county citizen about Piney Township.
