Sales tax revenue collections in Houston increased while Cabool and Texas County saw declines in July, according to a recent report. 

HOUSTON

A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $82,385.58 in July. That’s up $246.33 from the same period a year ago.

A one-cent general sales tax increased $1,353.57, totaling $84,222.72.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $20,596 in July. That’s up $62 from the same period last year.

A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases increased $889.44, totaling $17,903.08 for the month.

CABOOL

A one-cent general sales tax totaled $25,310.72. That’s a decrease of $12,464.85 from the same period last year.

A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $12,655.41 in July. That’s down $6,232.30 from the same period last year.

A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $12,551.50 for the month.

A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases increased $658.16, totaling $13,394.40 for the month.

TEXAS COUNTY

For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $109,307 for July, which represented a decrease of $9,304 on each from the same period a year ago.

The sales tax on online and out-of-state sales totaled $112,379.27 for the month. That was down $8,137.64 from the same month in 2024.

Revenue from a three-eighths-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $76,223, which was down $6,367 for the month.
