An accident claimed a 13-year-old boy Sunday night in Troop G, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
Tpr. Nathan Poynter said a westbound 2001 Ford Explorer on Route M just west of Grovespring driven by a 16-year-old boy ran off the right side of the roadway, ejecting both passengers. The vehicle returned to the roadway and came to rest at 7:46 p.m., he said.
The boy was pronounced deceased at Mercy Hospital at 8:28 p.m.
Another passenger, a 14-year-old Niangua boy, was taken by ambulance with serious injuries, to Cox South in Springfield. The Grovespring driver had minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
No one was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was totaled.
It was the 26th fatality this year in the nine-county Troop G area; compared to 17 at the same time in 2024.
