Houston volleyball coach Julia Sloan entered the 2025 season four victories shy of 150 career wins. It took her team just four matches to reach the milestone.
The Lady Tigers extended their winning streak to begin the year with a 25-13, 25-8, 25-14 victory Tuesday night over Plato inside Tiger Fieldhouse.
The team surprised Sloan after the game with balloons and a hand-crafted sign celebrating the milestone.
“I’m appreciative of the recognition but this is all because of the kids,” Sloan said. “I’m just thankful that I get to do what I love with the best group of kids. I’m thankful I get to spend my days with them.”
Seniors Kayla Wagner and Gracyn McNiell had four aces apiece for HHS (4-0). Wagner had a team-best 14 kills and McNiell led the Lady Tigers with 11 digs. Claire Benoist had 16 assists and Hally Scheets added three blocks.
Sloan, who has a career record of 150-55-15, coached the Cabool volleyball program from 2018-21 before taking the helm in Houston in 2023. She is 51-20-4 with the Lady Tigers, including a district championship her first season.
