Sales tax revenue collections in Houston, Cabool and Texas County rose significantly in August, according to a recent report. 

HOUSTON

A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $88,616.24 in August. That’s up $7,507.85 from the same period a year ago.

A one-cent general sales tax increased $8,733.30, totaling $90,717.02.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $22,156 in August. That’s up $1,879 from the same period last year.

A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases increased $2,691.55, totaling $13,381.83 for the month.

CABOOL

A one-cent general sales tax totaled $49,225.39. That’s an increase of $20,081.11 from the same period last year.

A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $24,171.64 in August. That’s up $10,453.78 from the same period last year.

A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $24,612.70 for the month.

A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases increased $4,886.63, totaling $12,733.67 for the month.

TEXAS COUNTY

For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $131,331 for August, which represented an increase of $15,212 on each from the same period a year ago.

The sales tax on online and out-of-state sales totaled $112,752.10 for the month. That was up $47,006.95 from the same month in 2024.

Revenue from a three-eighths-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $89,437, which was up $9,352.04 for the month.
