A man faces three charges following an investigation Monday by the Houston Police Department.

Steven Caraveo was already in custody in an unrelated investigation when his name surfaced as a potential suspect in the theft of tools from a truck parked at a local business. Several Milwaukee tools were missing, along with four boxes of bits. The loss was about $900.

According to a police report, Caraveo overheard police communications about the theft and became nervous while in custody. Caraveo admitted to the theft and gave permission to check his cellular telephone that allegedly contained messages with a woman that he had stolen the tools. The items were given to the woman’s boyfriend, he told officers.

He is charged with stealing, a class D felony.

Police said Caraveo had earlier been found in the furnace room of an empty building at C.W. Harry and Holder drives. He told officers that he had been living in the building at times. Police found meth and marijuana pipes, according to a report. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; and second-degree trespassing, a misdemeanor.

Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.
