Portions of Texas County are listed as either abnormally dry (eastern county), moderate drought (central county) or severe drought (western county), according to a report released Tuesday, Oct. 14, by the National Weather Service.
In its last report, it said the continued lack of rainfall allowed the drought to worsen and expand across southern Missouri. It said dry vegetation and soils may increase the risk of fires and early onset of fall fire season.
“Even though the forecast does call for rain in the next week, forecasted rainfall amounts are not expected to be enough to eliminate this severe of a drought,” the National Weather Service said.
