Houston Schools last week received a $9,901 grant to support its Project Lead The Way (PLTW) programs.

A new high school computer science program will be launched with just under $4,000 from the funds, the district said. The remaining dollars will be used for supplies and equipment for classrooms already implementing PLTW.

The district said the grant was received through the Southern Alliance for Rural Development, a partnership of rural south-central Missouri school districts working to expand PLTW STEM programs with support from Missouri University of Science and Technology.

PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides hands-on, project-based learning programs in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) for students from pre-K through 12th grade.PLTW offers curriculum tracks like Engineering, Biomedical Science and Computer Science, along with training and support for teachers to deliver engaging, career-focused learning experiences.
